Not too late to help raise money on Sunday 19 May

It’s not too late to sign up for St Christopher’s Fun Walk 2013.

There is less than a week to go before St Christopher’s Fun Walk which will take place on Sunday 19 May. Registration is free http://www.stchristophers.org.uk/funwalk for this biannual event in and around Keston Common in nearby Kent. Walks of 3, 5, 8 and 11 miles enable people of all ages and fitness to take part. St Christopher’s Fun Walk is a great day out for all the family – as well as lots of fun and laughter along the routes, there are refreshments and live music and entertainment all day on Keston Common.

In our last Fun Walk in 2011 walkers raised a phenomenal £220,000 towards the running of the hospice. This year we hope to raise £250,000 to help us continue supporting dying people and those close to them in Bromley, Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark.

*Registration is free if you sign up before Tuesday 14 May, after this it is £5 per person on the day. There is no minimum sponsorship requirement, we just ask walkers to raise as much as they are able to, and those pledging to raise over £50 will receive an exclusive Fun Walk t-shirt!

Since it began 12 years ago, Fun Walk has raised £1.7 million for St Christopher’s, that’s the equivalent cost of all the nursing care for one bed on our inpatient unit every day for the past 15 years!

Rebecca Kemp, Community Fundraiser at St Christopher’s says: “We are so thankful to the 2,000 people who have signed up to walk so far – it would be fantastic for even more members of our local community to join us and I am sure it is going to be a special day. Please join us on Sunday 19 May and support your local hospice.”

For more information and to sign up for the Fun Walk until Tuesday 14 May go to http://www.stchristophers.org.uk/funwalk or turn up on the day between 8.30 am – 3 pm. You can support the event and donate to St Christopher’s by texting STCH13 £3 to 70070.

Widehorizons’ chair, John Russell, is attempting a solo, unaided walk of the UK South-West coastal path – a massive 1,008km – in less than 30 days during the month of May. This is the longest national trail in the UK and will require John to walk 25 miles every day!

Starting at Minehead in Somerset and finishing at Poole Harbour, Dorset, the total height climbed during the course of this walk will be 114,931ft – that’s four times the height of Mount Everest!

John’s walk is raising money for Widehorizons to provide more life-changing adventures to children at three South London primary schools: Brent Knoll, Downderry, and Watergate. He is aiming to raise a phenomenal £10,000!

John Russell comments:

“I am attempting a solo, unaided walk of the 1,008km UK South-West Coastal Path, the longest UK National Trail in less than 30 days during the month of May. I plan to walk over 25 miles a day for a month continuously!

I will be starting at Minehead in Somerset and finishing at Poole Harbour in Dorset. The total height climbed during the course of this walk is a massive 114, 931ft or just over 35,000metres – that’s four times the height of Everest!

The money raised from this walk will go towards funding the work of Widehorizons, where I am Chair of the Board. Widehorizons is a charity which exists to transform the lives of young people through the delivery of inspirational outdoor learning. Widehorizons believes that every child should have access to adventure as part of their education and throughout their lives. Through their six outdoor education centres across England and Wales they provide life-changing adventures for over 32,000 children each year!

To find out more go to: www.widehorizons.org.uk

By helping me raise money for this walk, you will be ensuring that Widehorizons can help even more children and young people experience unforgettable adventures just like this one!”
