Sydenham Gateway gets funding
Sydenham Gateway, the Sydenham Society's ideas for improving pedestrian flow, creating a new transport interchange, and in due course rebuilding Sydenham station, has taken a step forward. Lewisham Council have secured £130k funding from Transport for
London (TfL) for design work in the year 2006/7.

The funding will be used to develop, and consult upon, a Council project arising from the Sydenham Gateway scheme - to improve Sydenham Road from the Sydenham Gateway down to the junction with Mayow Road. Subject to a formal bid by the Council, TfL have earmarked a further £400k for the first year's
physical work in 2007/8 on whatever proposals emerge from the design and consultation process.

The Sydenham Gateway is the area from Cobbs Corner to Venner Road. The Society's ideas include closing Spring Hill by the roundabout to create a south facing open space. The Venner Road junction with Sydenham Road could be used to create a further open space with bus stops on both sides of the road
at Venner Road.
