At a meeting between Darien Goodwin, Lewisham's Head of Transport, on 25 April, after the newsletter deadline, we were advised that:
Sydenham Gateway
A draft Local Implementation Plan (LIP) was going to the Cabinet for approval on 27 April. Chapter 3 of this plan puts forward ideas and proposals for the future of Sydenham, along the lines of the Society's Sydenham Gateway ideas.
The LIP identifies Sydenham Road as its top priority for "Town Centre" improvement funding under TfL "Area Schemes" for 2005/6 plans.
This could include bus/train transport interchanges in the station area, which "should be" designed within the overall aspirations of the residents for a new station.
A bid was currently being worked up for the year 2005/6 to provide general pedestrian improvements within the Gateway area. The bid is due to be made in July with a decision in December 2005. This would include provision of bus stops near the station, together with possible public open spaces.
With regard to Sydenham Station improvements it would appear that the Strategic Rail Authority have £370m to spend on improvements for disabled access to stations over a 10-year period in three stages. Sydenham is scheduled for Phase 3, as are Forest Hill and Brockley along the East London line.
A further meeting would be held between the Council and Sydenham Society later in the year.
It was emphasised that the Society's ideas were proposals and that full public consultation would take place before any of these were implemented.
