(Between ‘Savacentre and Wickes’) The Sydenham Society with others recognised that the development of the Bell Green Gasworks site would remove an important wildlife habitat in this area. The ‘Park’, which adjoins the site now becomes more important as a wildlife area. It has had a history of pollution from not only the gasworks but more recently from a chemical discharge which affected the waterlife, killing many fish. Thankfully these particular problems have been addressed. As an Educational and Recreational resource for children and adults it is underused. It is a people and dog friendly location, but could do with more supportive care and community investment. Friends of the River Pool Park would like to invite any of the Society members who use or have an interest in this park to register their interest by emailing
